Naz's Dastarkhan (tablecloth in Urdu) is a beautifully-presented collection of heirloom Pakistani and North Indian recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. Written in a clear and accessible style by master chef Syeda Naz Nazar, they represent the very best in traditional as well as modern Pakistani cuisine, along with some choice family favorites and ayurvedic home remedies.

Arriving in America from Pakistan in 1973, Naz spent years collecting recipes from her elders back home and translating their kitchen artistry (in urdu known as their andaza, or estimate) into exact and reliable measurements that could be easily followed. These recipes, along with her memorable anecdotes, time-saving tips, and glossary of Urdu terms make cooking even the most elaborate dishes easy, fun, and delicious every time. From basic homemade staples like ginger-garlic paste to the intricate complexities of a delicate Murgh Musallam, Naz's Dastarkhan is a glorious spread as generous as the chef who shares it with us.

This project began in earnest when Naz was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2022. Before her passing in November 2022, she was able to document the 111 recipes that are included in the book. These recipes represent the crown jewels of her repertoire, and are now being lovingly released by her children for the world to enjoy.

In accordance with her wishes, all net proceeds of cookbook sales will be donated to PanCAN.
